Curfew Imposed to Quell Deadly Protests In Sierra Leone SierraLeone

Officials in Sierra Leone announced a nationwide curfew on August 10, 2022 amid anti-government protests, during which an unspecified number of people, including police officers were killed.

In capital city Freetown, protesters barricaded the streets, angry at the 40% rise in the cost of living, under President Julia Maada's leadership. The protesters are demanding the resignation of the president, who is on a month-long vacation with his family in London - a trip that was paid for - allegedly with funds misappropriated by the finance ministry to the tune of almost £100,000 - while the country is in economic turmoil.

President Bio is accused of rampant corruption, human rights abuses, the killing of unarmed civilians and prisoners, the abuse of power and poor leadership. He is also accused of bringing acute economic hardship to the nation.
