Matthew (Matty) Clarke, a self-styled backwoods guru has agreed to dismantle his cabin in Yukon that he built, lived in, and boasted about on his YouTube channel after the territorial government filed a petition to the Yukon Supreme Court in March.

The court petition against Sergerie has now been dropped. A spokesperson with Yukon's Energy, Mines and Resources department says her cabin has been removed and the site rehabilitated back to a natural state.

The videos are a mix of step-by-step instructions for DIY cabin-building, northern travelogue, and inspirational musings by Clarke. Clarke posted a series of six videos — titled, "Alone in the Yukon" — that show him single-handedly felling trees and building his Yukon log cabin. According to the Yukon government, though, he was never as alone as his videos suggest — Sergerie and Tourigny's cabins were nearby though they're never shown or mentioned in the videos.

Meantime, he kept posting new videos online through last summer with no mention of his legal predicament. Meantime, he's been posting a new weekly series of videos to Skote Outdoors, apparently filmed last winter, that show him building an off-grid log cabin in Labrador. While Clarke was evidently focused on his new adventure in Labrador, Sergerie and Tourigny each took to the local Yukon media last fall and winter to try to argue for their right to stay in their Yukon cabins.

He should have just said he’s homeless, then the government would have allowed him to keep his dwelling on public land.

This clown absolute free loader. What does he think he is the CBC?

We should be dismantling government.

I love it when someone gives the finger to Big Government.

He should also have to pay for all the trees he cut down.

Just don't tell anyone. The only reason he got caught was because he posted youtube videos. For every one we know/hear about there's probably ten more that we don't hear/know about. Could be someone reading this post for all we know.

'Dreams come true, man. Dreams come true every day, boys — you just gotta make them come true,' Well sure, when you squat on public land instead of buying some like everyone else...

This guy is a Newfoundland youtuber that I follow, his current series is in Labrador where he is building a cabin. Pretty entertaining fellow.

I guess, don’t squat on First Nations land, use crown land instead? And don’t yap about it on YouTube lol… he could’ve lived there for decades had he not broadcast his scheme to literally the entire world

There's no such thing as a free lunch....or home in this case.

Goverment wants you weak and dependent, not self sufficient and strong.

Nice.

Hockey Canada commissions former Supreme Court justice to lead review into governance | CBC NewsHockey Canada has hired former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell to lead a review into the organization’s governance structure amid growing calls for its leadership to step down over its handling of alleged sexual assault cases. I for one am shocked that hockey people could be so corrupt and incompetent when it comes to running a large organization. The way Canadians navel gaze and tilt at windmills this will probably generate a 10,000-page report that will cost millions and will end up being ignored. It's what we do though eh. Should Justin Trudeau step down to because he had sex with a 14 year old when he was a teacher?
