They have admitted that the Haqqani network, a US-designated terrorist group and key element of the Taliban, was protecting Zawahiri in Kabul. Speaking on 31 August 2021, after the last US troops left Afghanistan, Mr Biden said the US would not let up on its fight against terrorism in that country or elsewhere."We just don't need to fight a ground war to do it."
