Senzo Meyiwa murder trial postponed again pending accused's bail application

JOHANNESBURG - The trial against the men accused of murdering Senzo Meyiwa has been postponed pending a bail application by one of the accused.The case has been marred by controversy, with the lawyer for the first four accused, Advocate Malesela Teffo, withdrawing from the matter last month.Advocate Teffo was a no-show on Tuesday morning, despite a letter that he penned to State Advocate George Baloyi, stating that he will continue as the lawyer for four of the accused.

His instructing attorney, Tshepo Thobane, has distanced himself from that letter, emphasising that Teffo has indeed withdrawn from the matter. "When he's also talking about whatever he's talking about after he withdraws, then it's not the instructions of the attorney, then it's not part of this matter anymore. Whatever he says, he says out of his mind," Thobane said.Ntanzi is the only one of the accused without a previous conviction or an outstanding matter.

The matter has been postponed to next month for trial to resume, but Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela said that Ntanzi’s bail application should preferably be heard before then.
