Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) on Monday insisted that the Imo State Government owes the company N2.5 billion. This was stated in a statement released by the group’s Head of Corporate Communications and Affairs, Cornel Osigwe on Monday. The company earlier filed a lawsuit against Imo State Government at a State High Court in Anambra State over the unpaid debt.

The Commissioner said the government bought vehicles worth over N5 billion from Innoson Motors and had so far paid the company N3.5 bn. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company on Monday insisted that the Imo State Government owes the company N2.5 billion.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Government had also described as distasteful and cheap blackmail, the claim by Innoson Motors that the state owes the company N2.5 billion being the cost of the vehicles it supplied some months ago. However, Innoson in the statement released on Monday said,"Our attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly released by the Commissioner for information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba on behalf of the Imo State Government. The said statement was unscrupulously written to water down the facts and substance stated in our earlier statement.

"After one year, specifically in April 2021, Imo State Government requested the supply of another set of vehicles with an understanding the State Government will pay for the vehicles after deliveries to them, just as was the case with the first transaction and which request was granted and honored. This particular transaction was reported by many news media.
