Is calling your classmate a racial epithet a first amendment right that should not be restricted in schools?

There is no difference between hate speech and screaming fire in a crowded theater. It is not protected.

Amen! Washington Post gets it right sometimes. Censorship is never the answer. The best remedy for bad speech is more speech.

there are a lot of grey areas as to what is and isnt hate speech. A lot of the social teachings of religions would be seen as hate speech nowadays, particularly the anti gay or anti women parts. I dont think stereotyping should necessarily be considered as hate speech though.

Paradox of tolerance anyone? The paradox of tolerance was described by Karl Popper in 1945. The paradox states that if a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant will eventually be seized or destroyed by the intolerant.

Children aren't born w/empathy, it's up to the parent to teach it. Start young, words hurt, ask 'how would you feel if 'questions.

Of course it is. Liberal teachers are brainwashing our children.

Word Police WaPo

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

'Since people have a problem with protesting systemic social injustice advocacy, clearly the answer is to give the Nazis the floor.' Nope.

Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota. White Supremacists have the biggest fonts.

There is no right of free speech for hate, bigotry and facism. It ended April 29 1945

Looks like the 14th Amendment Commercialized Citizen has abrogated her/his right to the Constitution, which is the very reason Unconstituional Democracy Form of Gov needs to be Abolished, and the United States Return to a For the People by The People Republic Form of Gov. AP

Censorship is never the answer in a free society. More important is we can never trust the left's definition of hate speech.

WPost must start with itself by banning hate incitement against realDonaldTrump personally and political incitement against friendly & loyal countries like its smearing campaign against SaudiArabia which amounts to hallucinations

Showing up? Didn't you media people go to school? Hateful speech has been around for a long time and comes from all backgrounds. Just because you started labelling it recently, doesn't mean it's something new.

Your premise is flawed. You're treating 'black people should be treated equally' as though it's the same as 'I support ethnic cleansing'. Those ideas aren't the same. In fact, they're diametrically opposed to one another. One's a call for fair treatment, and the other is 1/

First Amendment I don't think means you have the right to incite hate crimes.

This isn't good. Everyone is a racist now. Because of Trump. Even school and teachers now trying to censoship like Orwell. Where is the resistance in this ?

So, schools can punish a kid for holding a “bong hits 4 Jesus” sign at an off-campus event (SCOTUS has said so) but not for spouting hate speech that demeans and threatens their classmates, is that what you’re saying?

Lets debate the nazi. It worked well the 1st time

Check my pulse. I agree with a WaPo headline.
