Lawyers representing the suspects arrested for Magaqa’s murder five years ago asked the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday that the case be postponed to September 15. They said they wanted to conduct their own investigations.
The whistle-blower is also calling for the declassification of a counter-intelligence report that is said to have identified some members of the crime intelligence unit who allegedly has a hand in the former ANC councillor’s murder. “We are worried about the delays, but we respect the court processes. We are starting to mobilise the masses to picket and demand justice at court every time the accused appears in court.”
Two of the suspects in the case, Sibonelo Myeza and Mlungisi Ncalane, were police officers at the time of their arrest, while the alleged trigger man – identified by the Hawks as Jabulani Mdunge – was a police informer.
