His daughter's alleged killer recently got R5 000 bail and her dad says the law in SA doesn't work for the dead. He still remembers the day he went to wash his daughter's body in the mortuary. | DrumMagazine

The memorial service of nurse Lebogang Monene in February. She was gunned down at Tembisa Hospital parking lot, allegedly by her former partner, a cop.And now he has to see the face of her alleged killer every time he and his family travel to Johannesburg from Limpopo to follow the case.

Lebo’s father Nicholas Monene tells Drum that they are in shock that he got such a small amount for bail.“Someone died because they chose to be in a relationship with this man and all he gets is R5 000 bail. And the reason is that he is in a wheelchair but why and how did he end up in that chair?” a frustrated Nicholas asks.Lebo had two children and they now stay with him and he says he cries every time the kids cry and want their mother.

He says what is worse is finding out the reason why he got bail is that the accused allegedly lied about taking care of Lebo’s child and sending money to Lebo’s family. “That’s what gets to me the most because we are looking forward to this guy telling us what happened? Why did he decide that he must shoot Lebohang?” he tells Drum.

He says he is wondering if the accused was experiencing a break-up for the first time with his daughter and if not what happened to his previous lover?
