News reaching the Siya crew is that Ayanda Gcaba, who was at Orlando Pirates four years ago has failed to impress during his trial at a PSL club that recently parted ways with two defenders ahead of the new season.

Motsepe Foundation Championship newbies MM Platinum, more popularly known as La Masia lost the highly-rated duo of Lesego Sebetlela and Kenneth Sikhosonke Langa.Sebetlela has since joined DStv Premiership side, Sekhukhune United, while Langa has penned a deal with AmaTuks. La Masia are in the market for the duo’s replacement, and they invited ex-Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba for an assessment.

The 36-year had been training with the side or a week, hoping to impress the technical team and sign a deal. However, indications are that the player has not done enough to convince club hierarchy, who has since decided against offering him a deal.“Gcaba didn’t even play in La Masia’s friendly match on Friday. He was just running on the sides. The club is still assessing a few options and will take it from there,” the source said.

The defender parted ways with Pirates four years ago and has had stints at Free State Stars, Jomo Cosmos, and Royal AM, most recently in the ABC Motsepe for Sinenkani. He made 115 appearances for Pirates between 2012 and 2018. Gcaba also earned three caps for Bafana Bafana and formed part of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
