One law includes a 10-year ban on gun possession if someone is convicted of child or elder abuse. The other laws focus on the manufacture and sale of firearms and require schools to report any possible threat to law enforcement
"While the Supreme Court rolls back reasonable gun safety measures, California continues adding new ways to protect the lives of our kids," Newsom said in a statement released before he signed the bill."California will use every tool at its disposal to save lives, especially in the face of an increasingly extreme Supreme Court."
But the gun control advocacy organizations Moms Demand Action and affiliated Students Demand Action backed the bill's potential to combat untraceable"ghost guns." That portion of the law"is intended to make it impossible to file a Second Amendment challenge to an unconstitutional gun control law. That is itself unconstitutional," said Chuck Michel, president of the California Rifle and Pistol Association.
The governor recently signed another bill patterned after a New York law that empowers anyone who suffered harm to sue gun makers or dealers who fail to follow precautions under a"firearm industry standard of conduct."
