'I think the decision was clearly wrong when it was decided. It was the court overreaching,' said Ted Cruz about the 2015 case that legalized gay marriage in the United States.

FILE - Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, questions Supreme Court nomineeKetanji Brown Jackson during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, March 23, 2022. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is endorsing former state treasurer Josh Mandel in the heated Republican primary for Ohio's open U.S. Senate seat.

“I think [the Obergefell] decision was clearly wrong when it was decided. It was the court overreaching,” the Texas Republican said during an episode of his podcast, The Verdict with Ted Cruz. “Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nation’s history. Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states,” Cruz said. “We saw states before Obergefell — some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships. There were different standards that the states were adopting.

“The way the Constitution set up for you to advance that position is to convince your fellow citizens. If you succeeded in convincing your fellow citizens, then your state would change the laws to reflect those views. In Obergefell, the court said now we know better than you guys do, and now every state must, must sanction and permit gay marriage,” Cruz said. The topic of a constitutional right to gay marriage has been reignited following in the wake of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v.

tedcruz you were the wrong decision, being able to marry who you love is basic human right. Overreaching would be you saying it's wrong. Have a day!

Ted should come out already. Anyone who cares this much about gay people is clearly missing something in their lives. After he left Trump humiliate his wife, this explains so much.

What does Ted think will happen to the thousands of already married Texans who this will affect- not to mention the families who may decide to move to Texas in the future?

Not overreaching when they walk back Roe v Wade but overreaching when they legalized gay marriage. Okay

God says that marriage is made up of one man and one woman. Nothing else qualifies as marriage.

SenTedCruz Cruz is one of the main supporters in suppressing women's free choice, LGBT equal rights, and the democratic Republic. VOTE OUT CRUZ!

Nobody is forcing him to marry a guy. He’s just jealous because 2 people of the same sex can love each other more than his wife loves him.
