Telemedicine appears to be becoming one of the key battlegrounds over abortion rights in Britain right now, and one of the ways in which the anti-abortion lobby can “chip away” at women’s rights.
“[It’s] very small numbers, thankfully, but for those individuals, it’s absolutely devastating,” he says. Dr Lord says safeguarding and helping women get out of abusive situations has been enhanced because of telemedicine, with people feeling more confident to share over the phone. Katherine O’Brien, associate director of campaigns and communications at British Pregnancy Advisory Service , says targeting telemedicine is part of a new tactic for the anti-abortion lobby.
Protests and vigils led by groups that oppose abortion are being staged outside clinics across the country, which can serve to intimidate the women and staff who enter. While a handful have council-issued protest-free zones around the vicinity, there is no centralised method of protection for the clinics.
In Britain, abortions can be carried out up to 24 weeks of pregnancy either using pills or surgery. Those taking place towards the cut-off tend to involve the most vulnerable and distressing scenarios, such as a foetal anomaly that was previously undetected.
It’s Pro-Life . That’s positive , anti abortion is ok . Surely if abortion is killing then anti abortion is anti-killing .
