For the second time in less than a year, the iconic lake has already dropped to a new record low. The Great Salt Lake Recovery Act would ask for federal dollars to study historic droughts and identify solutions to revive the capital city’s namesake.

Great Salt Lake has caught the attention of Washington. Sen. Mitt Romney announced Thursday that he and fellow Republican Reps. Chris Stewart and Burgess Owens introduced a bill to preserve the Great Salt Lake.. The Great Salt Lake Recovery Act would ask for federal dollars to study historic droughts and identify solutions to revive the capital city’s namesake.

The legislation requests $10 million to develop a program that focuses on the conditions and water levels of saline lakes in the Great Basin. The goal is to keep other stakeholders up to date on the various ecosystems that call saline lakes home. “Watersheds don’t respect state or even country boundaries. Watersheds are about landscape,” Baxter said. “And in the case of Great Salt Lake, all the water in the watershed funnels towards that terminal lake. So, it’s like the bottom of the bathtub.”

Finally breaking away from treason to actually do something.

So Federal Government has to bail out the the GSL? Is that the Utah way?

Oh? Sweet! Thanks dudes.

I'm no expert, but maybe we should stop growing water-intensive crops in a desert...namely, alfalfa.

Replenishing a salt lake with fresh water is nuts. The western US is running out of water, we need to focus on that.

We will eventually come out of the drought. Let's spend thousands trying to produce rain and out guess God. Common sense is dead.

It's not a complicated solution. Stop adding water consumers. If cities don't have enough water and the lake is drying up, that tells you we don't have enough water. So why do we continue adding consumers? The complication is that it cuts into the greedy ppls profits.

Thank god. 😂😂😂😂😂

Great I'll get my checkbook out.

Nice of them to come home long enough to see something that has been happening every since the floods in the 80's ended.

Uh, they want a “study.” Let’s not confuse that with actual action.

Lol BurgessOwens

“Don’t Look Up” made manifest.

This isn’t a federal problem. Why do we need federal money?

There is nothing notable in their ideas. They seem simple minded without real grasping of the scope of the problem. It was political showmanship. And as noted, will take so long there will be no water to conserve to send into the lake. Poor poor planning UT

WE. DON'T. HAVE. TIME. FOR. A. STUDY. ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Stewart and Owens voted to overturn the current government. Now they're asking them for money? How pathetic are these guys 🤡

'Sen. Romney, Stewart and Owens pitch Congress on a Great Salt Lake rescue bill...' What's the rest of the joke?

Seems a little late
