RockyMntnMike NBCBLK Around the same time, Bill Cosby on the show “I Spy” had the first interracial television kiss initiated by a black man but, as I recall, the woman was definitely not white.

RockyMntnMike NBCBLK The Kirk/Uhura kiss was ground breaking but the Star Trek universe didn’t completely adhere to 1960s mores or taboos. Nevertheless, the “kiss” was forced upon them by a space dwelling “Greek Demi-God” and was not the result of mutual and unfettered desire.

Star Trek's interracial kiss 50 years ago heralded changeWASHINGTON (AP) — It was the kiss heard around the galaxy. Fifty years ago — and only one year after the U.S. Supreme Court declared interracial marriage was legal — two of science fiction's most enduring characters, Captain James T. Kirk and Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, kissed each other on 'Star Trek.' It wasn't romantic. Sadistic, humanlike aliens forced the dashing white captain to lock lips with the beautiful black communications officer. But the kiss between actors William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols in 'Plato's Stepchildren' would help change attitudes in America about what was allowed to be shown on TV and made an early statement about the coming acceptance of interracial relationships in a United States still struggling with racism and civil rights. Oh please! Man, y'all need to let some things go. I'll be the judge of that.
