WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear an appeal from North Carolina Republicans that could drastically limit state court authority over congressional redistricting, as well as elections for Congress and the presidency.
The Supreme Court has never invoked what is known as the independent state legislature doctrine, but four of the court's conservative justices have expressed interest in taking on the subject.

U.S. Supreme Court expands state power over Native American tribesWASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday dramatically increased the power of states over Native American tribes and undercut its own 2020 ruling that had expanded tribal authority in Oklahoma, handing a victory to Republican officials in that state. In a 5-4 decision authored by conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the court ruled in favor of Oklahoma in its bid to prosecute Victor Castro-Huerta, a non-Native American convicted of child neglect in a crime committed against a Native American child - his 5-year-old stepdaughter - on the Cherokee Nation reservation. This so good, otherwise people will try to use their ' cards' to get away with crimes. This is a victory for justice! Indigenous US Tribes will continue to be purposely middle-fingered by this stacked R supreme court The Tribes were not staffed to competently take on the roll of law enforcement for half the state. Criminals were going unpunished or even arrested.
