New legislation to provide public funding for in-vitro fertilisation treatment has been described as “discriminatory” by the head of one of the largest IVF clinics in the country.
Caitriona McPartlin, chief executive of ReproMed Ireland, said a requirement in the government’s planned legislation for those undergoing fertility treatment to have counselling should not be forced on people. “There are several issues in the legislation that we're concerned about. One of them is that there appears to be a mandatory requirement for anyone having fertility treatment to have counselling as part of the process. We think that’s discriminatory,” McPartlin told the Business Post.
