Killer drivers could be given life sentences under rules that come into force this week.
The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act will allow judges to hand down life sentences to dangerous drivers who kill or careless drivers who kill while under the influence of drink or drugs.Justice Secretary Dominic Raab said:"Too many lives have been lost to reckless behaviour behind the wheel, devastating families.
"We have changed the law so that those responsible will now face the possibility of life behind bars."It will also create a new offence - causing serious injury by careless driving, which will be aimed at those who inflict long-term or permanent injury on others.
Will the judges give the sentence? Atm if offenders do get jailed it’s half in jail, half on licence. They get 1/3 off for giving a guilty plea yet offer no remorse. The worst drug/drunk drivers do not get 14yrs now, so I doubt this law will be effective.
