WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has ended constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years in a decision by its conservative majority to overturn Roe v. Wade. Friday's outcome is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.

Alito, in the final opinion issued Friday, wrote that Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the 1992 decision that reaffirmed the right to abortion, were wrong the day they were decided and must be overturned. "With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent," they wrote.

More than 90% of abortions take place in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, and more than half are now done with pills, not surgery, according to data compiled by Guttmacher. Whatever the intentions of the person who leaked Alito's draft opinion, the conservatives held firm in overturning Roe and Casey.

By early summer, Kennedy had retired and was replaced by Justice Brett Kavanaugh a few months later. The Mississippi law was blocked in lower federal courts.

Today the Supreme Court failed me and all women by siding with zealots and the uneducated in a blatant attack on women's rights. If we can't be trusted to make informed decisions about our own bodies, what next? Take away our right to vote?

Good. Be a responsible adult.

The Constitution never spoke to abortion. I don’t know why you call it constitutional protection? It took 63 million babies to die before the realization came. With all those abortions we probably lost a lot of scientist, teachers, researchers, and probably 1st woman President.

Another loss for America... The Big Government loving Republicans can now use Government to force birth. But then again...Republicans do hate America and Freedom so this makes sense

US Supreme Court divided over church-state separationThe wall separating church and state is one of the foundational principles of the United States. Sonia Sotomayor, one of three liberal justices on the Supreme Court, is accusing her conservative majority colleagues of tearing it down. There is not Constitutional wall that separates church from state. There is only a prohibition on the establishment of a state church. Whoever wrote Yahoos headline is Publicly Educated.
