The high court, split along its usual ideological lines, ruled New York’s framework for granting concealed-carry handgun permits gives too much discretion to licensing officers, usually a local judge or law enforcement agency, in violation of the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms. The decision will almost certainly mean more handguns in public spaces, especially in New York City, where unrestricted carrying permits are especially hard to obtain. New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts, Hawaii and California are among a handful of states with similar rules, likely forcing looser restrictions there as well.
New York officials have long credited the state’s strict permitting regime as key to maintaining public safety in densely populated areas, none more so than New York City, statistically one of the nation’sNew York will now have to fall in line with carrying laws in place in more than 42 states, where concealed-carry permits are decided by an objective test, such as the applicant’s meeting minimum age and background checks, or where no carrying permit is required at all by licensed handgun...
Welcome to the Wild West! Time to be an ex-pat somewhere? We are living in a country that we love BUT this, the reversal of Roe V Wade as well as other issues, this country is no longer the country it was.😞
Great. Freedom for the people
Guns is not the problem it’s the people that use it for the wrong reasons
How about concealed guns within the Supreme Court building. The justices need to “feel” how safe we will feel on the subway everyday
So terribly disappointing
This is going to be a huge disaster.
I'm sure the people who regularly talk about, 'States rights,' will be here any moment now
This “Supreme” Court has gotta go.
As if it’s going to make a big difference. 🙄
Republicans: 'Let's all carry guns and shoot each other when we feel offended.' 'I felt intimidated by black dancers on the subway so i had to shoot them'
What does this ruling mean for mass transit in NYC? “It’s gonna be a complete disaster and shows how anti-urban the Supreme Court is,” says an MTA board member.
Many deaths in NY will be on this Supreme Court’s hands!
Can we just abolish the Supreme Court already? What more evidence do we need before we understand how harmful, and decidedly partisan and undemocratic, this institution is? That, or NY should secede.
WNYC If SCOTUS feels guns are right and ok then the don’t need protection because they can carry and protect themselves!
… sigh is not a big enough word …
Thank God!!
Just in time for summer! If you’re playing “fireworks or gunshots,” bet on gunshots.
