The Black Sash has launched a court application to overturn regulations that stipulate that anyone with an income of more than R350 may not receive the R350 grant. The means test will exclude millions of poor people, it said on Thursday. | Fin24

The Black Sash wants to overturn the R350 means test for the Social Relief of Distress grant.

The latest iteration of the R350 grant, which was supposed to run from April to the end of March next year, put in place a means test of R350, meaning that anyone who has income above that level – even if it is support from a family member – is excluded from the grant. Previous versions of the grant did not require a means test.

Fin24 This was always going to be a bridge too far for the government. Yes, the R350 goes a long way for the poor. Question still remain though if the labour department knows who's unemployed with what qualification?

Fin24 I suggest the Black Sash pays for the grant personally and the costs of the application

Fin24 All and well but can we as taxpayers afford it ?

Fin24 Bunch of anc thiefs

Fin24 I hate those fucken people, there are so many people out there who are initially not poor but they are receiving 350,some of them are employed & others are receiving uif yet they are busy chowing 350,& to some of us it's an issue, they detect nsfas which we are not even receiving
