Dimora’s attorney, Philip Kushner, filed a one-sentence notice of appeal in federal court that says Dimora intends to appeal the term handed down earlier this month by U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi.

CLEVELAND, Ohio— Disgraced former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora signaled on Wednesday that he intends to appeal his new 23-year prison sentence.

Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to Dan Ball, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office, and Kushner for comment. Kushner also argued that Dimora should be released on house arrest because of his failing health, including a heart defect, an intestinal disorder and a knee injury. He also suffered a stroke in prison.the effect of the two charges getting dismissed. They argued that Dimora was still convicted of many crimes and estimated he accepted more than $400,000 in bribes and favors. They said his reduction should be between 3.5 and 8.5 years in prison.
