Bruce Lehrmann is accused of sexually assaulting fellow Liberal Party staffer Higgins inside an office in Parliament House in 2019.He has pleaded not guilty.
Justice McCallum told the court she vacated the trial dates “with gritted teeth” after his defence team requested a temporary stay in the wake of Wilkinson’s speech and surrounding publicity.“Because of its immediacy, its intensity and its capacity to obliterate the important distinction between an allegation that remains untested at law.
Despite the warning, Wilkinson took to the stage after winning the Most Outstanding News Coverage or Public Affairs Report award and described her interview with Higgins as the most most important journalism she had worked on across her career. “As Brittany warned me before we went to air, her story would be seen by many of the most powerful people in this country not as a human problem but as a political problem.”Justice McCallum told the court on Tuesday that the speech and publicity following it left her with no other option but to delay the trial.

for a journalist with the experience ,she made a very stupid remark,am sorry to say but I will never watch anything with her in it,, she made me wonder ,,,,has she lost some marbles?
What would you expect from her? The guy hasn't been convicted yet, but on 'hearsay' from a drunken party-girl, he's guilty! Pathetic attempt to sway people's opinions, or just plain stupid?🤔
Because of the beat up in the media about the speech, I actually went and looked at it… I’m sure many others did as well… if the media hadn’t made such a hullabaloo over it, I doubt we would have such potentially tainted jurors..
