John Albert Laylo and his mother were in a Uber on the way to Philadelphia International Airport when the gunfire erupted.

PHILADELPHIA -- A lawyer from the Philippines died Sunday after he was shot in Philadelphia while traveling to the airport with his mother, Action News has learned.

Police say the gunman, who investigators believe was in a black vehicle, came up from behind and fired several rounds into car. The gunman then pulled up on the driver's side of the car and fired additional gunshots.Laylo was shot in the head and died from his injuries Sunday. His mother was also injured.

A spokesperson with Filipino American Association of Philadelphia said they are very concerned about what happened, adding that Laylo and his mother were innocent visitors trying to enjoy the city. Laylo and his mother had been in Philadelphia since June 9. A spokesperson for Uber released this statement on the shooting,"The violent attack that took Mr. Laylo's life is heart-breaking and our thoughts are with his family during their time of grief. We hope police are able to quickly arrest those responsible."Since Friday, eight people died and 16 others were injured in more than a dozen shooting incidents.

What a shame…./senseless killing !!

Last week I posted this to warn we need to get our act together before hosting a world soccer event in 2026, for any incident would shine an international light on us. Murdering a citizen of the Philippines in front of his mother is that incident.

Very sad. The heathenry of this city should reflect to the rest of the world to no longer visit the city of “brotherly love” until the citizens clean up their act and remember how to be human again
