When the gender equity legislation known as Title IX became law in 1972, the politics of transgender sports was not even a blip in the national conversation in the U.S. Today, it is one of the sharpest dividing points in American culture.

As the transformational law heads into its second half-century on the books, the Biden administration wants transgender athletes to enjoy the same protections Title IX originally gave to women when it was passed 50 years ago. That stance is at odds with efforts in states across the country.

Other measures do the opposite, allowing gender identity to determine an athlete's eligibility. There are myriad rules and guidelines in place across the country, state to state and sometimes sport to sport or even school to school. All the anti-transgender legislation hits home for Kyla Paterson, who was able to play soccer after the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union adopted regulations for the inclusion of transgender girls in 2014.

The group wants lawmakers to take cues from international sports, which have come up with regulations for transgender athletes and others with higher-than-normal levels of testosterone. That conundrum, captured most poignantly by the journey of South African sprinter Caster Semenya, who has what's called 46 XY DSD condition, has been fraught with contradictions and frustration.

Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, called the bans overly harsh.

How about the right to be alive.

I'm Canadian. Do I misinterpret title 9 as preventing discrimination based on sex? So far as I know, it was made to protect women, right? So title 9 has nothing to do with gender and therefore doesn't apply to people who transition.

This article lies, stating it is generally accepted there is no detrimental event of trans identifying males taking up space in female sports. Furthermore, each spot taken up by a male prevents a female from having opportunities that go with it, let alone a safe space to do so.

If you’re born male or born female you go against the other people who are born male or female not the opposite sex not fair not cool transgender rights doesn’t take away from others rights!

Rights of mentally ill people more likely

No rights for these cheating athletes.

TransSexual! Gender is for LANGUAGE!

Just make a transgender divison to compete

And you wonder why women's sports are declining further and further...soon enough there will only be a Mens and Tranny category

They can have their own damn sport.

Transgender athletes have no rights, nor should they.

Hormone blocker will never make me any shorter.

The rights of transgenders vs. the rights of women. This should get interesting ... 'progressive' heads will be spinning.

Not a battle. If you want to participate then create your own category and participate. Easy, problem solved

they have no rights there still a man or women under it all

The rights of these athletes is to crate their own league. Stay away feom our girls weirdos. You are not Women.

Battle? Really CTV? How can a 115 pound totally fit girl have a chance against a male who transitioned into a female

Aaaaannd ... no one gives a 💩.

Trans have rights in sports. It’s the right to play in you biological division.

This is silly. Politics Media Ukraine Ideology Money Distractions

Give them a trans category problem solved. Then that where men that they are woman can compete against other failed male athletes.

Hey woke, stop denying science. Biology is clear, X and Y chromosomes. Men and women are physically different. A rose by any other name ……

Why do you hate real born women CTV?

Since a trans man poses no threat to the podium in mens sports, this is women’s battle to lose. The same women that title IX helped.

It’s so simple: instead of men vs women, we’ll have four categories: men, women, trans men, trans women. Good luck everyone!

1.8% identify as something else. 15% of the 1.8% play sports. Your turning 💩upside down for 15k delinquents.

Choices have consequences, right? That’s what millions of Canadians who are choosing not to experiment with mRNA vaccine drugs are being told. Choose to take hormones? Sorry, can’t compete. Funny how it’s only a problem with men trying to compete in women’s sports.

How about you either get to be an athlete or be abnormal?

Trans Ams shouldn't compete with women.

No one wants men in women's sports, get over it.

Only real women should compete in women's sports.

Make a category for all those crazy things and problem solved

Why not just create a transgender division?

Special rights for special people. I'm going to start using the female change rooms at the gym. I better not hear any transphobia when I whip out my dick in front of all the other ladies. leakinggenderfluid

I don’t see any women trying to join the mens sports….
