Senators are preparing to release a bipartisan gun safety framework today, according to people familiar with the negotiations. Their next challenge? Writing legislation that can get 60 votes.

Senators are preparing to release a bipartisan gun safety framework on Sunday, according to multiple people familiar with the negotiations. It would mark a significant breakthrough in Congress’ attempts to address recent back-to-back mass shootings.

More senators are poised to back the bill to demonstrate its breadth of support — to that end, a broader bipartisan group has held its own regular meetings on guns over the past three weeks since the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Those talks have included Sens. Susan Collins , Joe Manchin , Bill Cassidy , Chris Coons , Martin Heinrich , Richard Blumenthal , Lindsey Graham and Pat Toomey .

While Sunday’s announcement is a major breakthrough, translating a framework into an actual bill often proves challenging. During last year’s bipartisan infrastructure negotiations, for example, more than six weeks passed between negotiators’ announcement of a framework and Senate passage of the resulting bill.

What a coincidence, exactly 60. Guarantee Manchin/Sinema is going to come out against it with the dumbest excuse you can imagine. America loves its rotating villains.

Betting some dumb 💩 is attached to it. Do we have let Putin run for President here or something?

Acosta Not meaning to interfere in something that I have no skin in but - Why has this taken so long?

The rich people that work with armed police 24/7 want to make it harder for working Americans to defend themselves.

Patting themselves on the back for giving the appearance of doing something…

None of this is about 'safety'. Nice word play.

Secure the schools just like Democratic senators and representatives secure themselves.

Is that what it was? A 'gun safety' bill? No, it was not. Stop lying.

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED🗽🇺🇸

Let's see how many people they piss off

You would have thought that with Sandy Hook and Columbine Mass killings of children would have been enough for change! Not for today's GOP. And the only reason these 10 are stepping up is that elections are a few months away 'PERIOD'! 2022-24 I vote 4 our children and America!🇺🇸

Demonrats and their horde can't wait to disarm Americans.

I still don't Trust Them! They will say one thing and that Azz Hol Mitch will come along and tell the to do something else! I will wait to it's written in stone!

It's a start. Thank you all

As soon as the Republicans think they’re losing their hard-core right wing support, they’ll back down. Just watch.

Yes !! And thank god

It will be a minor breakthrough, even if it gets passed and signed by the President. It's a beginning to solve the gun madness in this country, and that's all it is... a beginning.

10 out of 50, shows who care more about their position than human lives. Then oyu have the 2 rogue Dem senators. Let's hope this is not another, yes we support this, and then No when the time comes to vote. It's like watching Lucy and Charlie Brown.

Why are people praising their rights and ability to defense being taken from them?

This still hasn't passed. Republicans have previously 'helped' on bipartisan efforts only to turn around vote against their own legislation. I'll believe they support this when they actually vote for it.

Will believe it when it actually happens

So with 10 Republicans supporting this compromise, it must be very watered down.

Im glad i live in a 2A sanctuary state.

Why is this breaking news,I thought, it was there job!

The headline makes it sound like great news, but in reality this is a nothing bill. It does practically nothing.

A state supervised militia well regulated under the command of the federal government. I think that would be the National Guard.

Unless Sen_JoeManchin decides to block it

*10 GOP traitors* Incentiviczes states to implement red flag laws. This is a civil war starting bill, amd everyone involved is an enemy to the Constitution of the US.

Has nothing to do with gun safety.

I hope so!!

Any step forward is a good thing. Want more? Get out and vote in November! BabySteps VoteBlueIn2022

good luck on your reelections rynos, ya just kissed it goodbye

The House passed a bill. Why are we not hearing anything about it?

The reason this got bipartisan support is because it literally does nothing. A virtue signaling bill

Republicans realizing that children spreading the blood of their dead classmates on themselves to trick the shooter into not destroying their bodies with an AR-15 is finally the push they need to not be horrible humans regarding gun control. SoullessRepublicans BareMinimum

In theory, I'm okay with most of this. I know I'm not gonna get my dream of just mail ordering an M249 to my doorstep, and most of this doesn't significantly restrict people from getting firearms. That said, I'm concerned this is a feint, and they are going to try to slip-

Looks like there politicizing of the shootings worked like they planned

STOP MAKING REFERENCES TO ASSAULT RIFLES! WE'RE NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT ASSAULT RIFLES! LEARN THE DAMN DIFFERENCE OR STOP REPORTING ON THE SUBJECT!

This's not a 'gun safety bill' it's a; 'Do the barest min. next to nothin at all, so ppl will STFU & move on so our gun manufacturer donors & NRA will be left alone to cont. funding our campaigns while WE in turn assure gun sales & subsequently mass murder cont. unabated' bill.

It's gonna be hilarious when Manchin says no and it gets filibustered

Acosta It's not a gun safety bill, has nothing to do with banning assault weapons, high capacity magazines, etc....

It’s positive but only done to appease anti gun protesters. Don’t take the bait!!

Mental health treatment is not gun safety. More school officers is not gun safety. Door locks is not gun safety. Get the damn assault rifles off our streets.

Total lack of affordable mental health care,so no juvenile record. “Here have some body armor and a gun”. 18 year old shoots up school, “Well,we tried”.

What is the point of republicans?

The only way it would work is required the juvenile criminal history when conducting a background check . I think it would have prevented a lot of the school shootings that have happened

I want weapons of war banned.

I don’t see this as gun legislation. There isn’t an actual bill. The Republicans will blame the Dems when they don’t vote for any of these measures. I hate to sound negative but I don’t think this will go anywhere.

Because there is no bipartisan support for the bill

Backed or blocked?

Acosta Except it does nothing about guns.

Still doesn’t take weapon of war AR-15 from the Americans’ hands, doesn’t raise age limit to buy a gun, no universal background check. It’s a disappointment, tbh.

Acosta It’s gummy.

Acosta Yes but the GOP (greed oppression power) has to get approval from agent orange…

CONGRATULATIONS To the 10 GOP Senators for gettin on the RIGHT side of history ♥️👏🙏

Stop calling it a 'gun safety agreement.' This is a community health bill.

It’s a start.

The approach will fail. Why? They’re afraid to address the issue because remaining in power is their approach. To keep control, they must make the enemy any organization that supports the opposing party. So, they'll push crap legislation. They'll us it for election fodder.

Why not just make it near impossible to buy ammo?

I will 100% support any new gun legislation you can assure me criminals will follow.

The senate may release a bipartisan FRAMEWORK, but they will NEVER PASS legislation. This is a tactic by republicans appearing to do something concerning gun control. Republicans want to be seen as doing something, when, again doing nothing.

The GOP Nazis will never give Joe a win. Dream on.

The Front End of my Panoply was written 10 years ago. A gal who was getting her Masters Degree in Criminology said 'people would be fools to not read my books'.

Any degradation of our right to own/possess firearms should not even be considered for any reason.

On a Sunday? Lol these fucking people
