We do, and it’s called “not guilty”.
Not proven merely means 'got away with it' to the public. It is a completely unsatisfactory verdict.
Makes perfect sense. A binary decision means either the accused or accuser is defacto 'guilty'. If the accused is not guilty the accuser is guilty of perjury or slander. Not proven accurately reflects the jurors assessment and is fairer on both parties .
