A two-week trial scheduled to begin in the tax evasion case of Rob Anders, a former Conservative member of Parliament, has been cancelled after the Crown stayed all charges.

He was elected as a Reform MP in 1997 and went on to to represent his Calgary riding until 2015. A Crown prosecutor told reporters that he received new evidence last week that would have made it difficult to secure a conviction.

I think they probably took pity on someone with obvious mental deficiencies and regular bouts of narcolepsy. Now the 'low tax' evangelist can carry on collecting his taxpayer funded pension for his years of snoozing in Parliament behind stephenharper.

The only Abuse of Power here is by the CRA. Anders had his reputation & career torn to tatters for years by this... and now they say they had insufficient evidence to bring those charges in the first place. Every CDN is at risk until Tax Reform addresses the CRA's size & power.

Found that shoe box of receipts after all, eh?
