More than 250 self-declared gun enthusiasts, including donors who have contributed to Gov. Greg Abbott’s campaigns, have signed onto an open letter supporting Sen. John Cornyn’s efforts at bipartisan gun reform legislation.

“We are grateful that our Senator John Cornyn is leading efforts to address the recent tragedies in Uvalde and elsewhere across our great Country,” the letter says. “He’s the right man to lead this bipartisan effort, as he has demonstrated throughout his career.

“These events have really motivated me and really gotten under my skin and encouraged me to support the effort that’s underway,” Maclin told The Texas Tribune. “I just felt like I needed to do something, and I also believe that there are reasonable things that can be done.” Maclin said the group is focusing on federal legislation, which he believes is the best avenue to passing gun safety laws and ensuring they are applied uniformly across the country. He declined to comment on the state response to the shooting or gun legislation, except to say that he hopes any federal plan led by Cornyn and passed with conservative support would be embraced by state governments.

JohnCornyn tweet on gun regulations. 'Not gonna happen' Believe them! GOPGunsOverPeople

JohnCornyn I am sure you are trying to be positive, but I doubt seriously that John Cornyn's efforts are anything more than hot air, to take some of the pressure off...

John Cornyn is not going to pass any fun reform legislation.

So that is 0.00001 % of the U.S. population?

If you look at what this supposed bipartisan deal includes you will soon discover that it is little more than hot air.

It's sad that Cornyn is the closest hope we have for any gun legislation during Abbott's term (which hopefully won't get an encore)

It matters about as much as the people who support the cause of the moment. Which is not much.

They need to go after the STATE lege. Abbott signed the bill saying you didn't need permits to carry, or training to use said weapons. The state can do stuff too. If they won't, start funding Dems & help elect them so changes get made.

So they are basically supporting Cornyn’s attempt to do nothing.
