CLEVELAND, Ohio— Four people are charged in connection with the theft of U.S. Postal Service master keys that allowed them and others to steal mail from blue boxes across the area.
The group faces federal charges including robbery, mail theft, transporting stolen cars across state lines and gun possession. The group used the keys to grab mail from dozens of mailboxes in the area, the court records indicate. The group’s members used people’s bank account information to drain people’s accounts, or open new ones in their names.
They also found stolen cars that ultimately helped investigators link the mail theft to a separate investigation the FBI launched in September into a series of stolen high-end vehicles, mostly Dodges and Jeeps, in Cleveland and Michigan.
