Law enforcement officers in Virginia were in a 'slow-speed' pursuit with 42-year-old Derrick Avey in the city of Hopewell on Wednesday afternoon, prior to the shooting, according to a statement.

was fatally shot in a confrontation with police in Virginia following a “slow-speed pursuit,” according to officials.

During the chase, Avey was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer, which came across several Hopewell police vehicles at an intersection, positioned to “contain his vehicle” and end the chase, police said. Local officers and an ATF agent at the scene all discharged their weapons during the shooting. No law enforcement officers were injured during the shooting.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Megan Frazer confirmed that the pair were married. Kyline was found dead around 6:04 p.m. in a wooded area near her home in the 8000 block of McClays Mil, Road. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
