The rumour was aired in the trial for three vaccine mandate challenges involving police and ambulance officers.

Barrister Dominic Villa, representing one group of police employees, interrogated Deputy Commissioner Doug Smith - the senior officer who advised Carroll about the vaccine mandate.

Smith had relied on the internet archive database Wayback Machine after the court had ordered him to produce supporting documents relevant to vaccine mandate orders.
