The ANC has compiled a new policy document which calls for an end to exclusive broadcasting rights on national sports events,This is according to the documents released for public discussion before the ruling party’s policy conference in July.
ANC communications subcommittee head Nkenke Kekana told Sunday Times the SABC had a constitutional mandate to carry matches involving national teams to the general public. SuperSport’s exclusive access to many of these matches is one of the biggest selling points of DStv’s Premium package. The ANC’s document does not give details on how its alternative funding model would work, except to state that the fiscus should support the SABC.
And where would somebody like the SABC get the money for tv rights? Can't even pay staff and needs Bailout from government.

How I wished the writer included the link to this policy, I believe this is a step in the right direction, I would have loved to see how it proposes to enforce this when there fifa or caf tournaments as broadcasting rights are sold by these organisations not SAFA

The sports unions will go bankrupt as they rely on the broadcasting deals. There no such thing as 'free' sports. SABC is already bankrupt so they be able to pay for rights. Sport is a product you cant 'give' away for free.
