The latest decision from the country's top court opened an old wound in Linda Babcock's heart. The Friday ruling that declared consecutive parole sentences unconstitutional brought back the sharp pain of her daughter's murder by a serial killer and his friend nearly 10 years ago - and left Babcock in tears.

“And yet they give criminals some leniency, not wanting them to suffer too much. We suffer horribly every single day - I mean, it's been almost 10 years and I still cry every day.” Dellen Millard was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder in three separate trials, each judge stacking 25 years of parole ineligibility on top of the others. Smich was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to 50 years without chance of parole.

Most dont get parole regardless, ppl need to relax. I know ppl who've been to the pen there are guys still in there from the 80s.

The supreme court allowed a parole hearing. It’s not like they will get out. The Norway shooter got a parole hearing as well, and obviously was denied. Paul Bernardo got one and was obviously denied.

Curious how many ppl do these guys need to murder to get life? Ontario is literally saying its okay to kill ppl...... Just wow

All victims received cruel and usual treatment before being murdered. Some ppl need a Rodney King beating. Replies ignored.

Rightfully so.

These criminals were caught during their murder & assault sprees. Consecutive sentences is what they deserve, given how inhumanely they treated their victims. There isn't enough $$$ or treatment that will help these murderers. I pay my tax $$$'s to keep people like this in jail.

You can all thank your Charter of Rights and Freedoms for this mess 😡

Disturbing. The Canadian governments hates it's citizens unless you are a criminal or 'downtrodden minority.'

our supreme court is soft

Keep punishing the victims and their families. Shameful.

The headline should read 'Families of prisoners convicted of murder rejoice at Supreme Court ruling'

Don’t blame them but not surprised. Canada has become soft. Surprised not out on day parole yet.

Everything in favour of the criminals. Crime is on the rise because the courts have gone soft. Commit a Violent crime and you’ll get a slap on the wrist
