Children trapped inside the school building called 911 for help, waiting 48 minutes for action. Now, a community is demanding to know why law enforcement stalled for nearly an hour.

Outside of Robb Elementary School, a top Texas police official revealed how, days earlier, as many as 19 police officers waited 48 minutes to act as a gunman rampaged in a classroom."Obviously, based on the information we have, there were children in that classroom that were still at risk," said Steven McCraw, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to authorities, 12 minutes later he entered the halls of Robb Elementary School and found his way to a fourth-grade classroom, where he opened fire. "They say they rushed in," said Javier Cazares, whose daughter, Jacklyn Cazares, was killed while he and several other parents who rushed to the scene were left helpless. On Friday afternoon, Mr McCraw told reporters the on-site commander had believed the gunman was barricaded in a classroom and that the students were safe.

On Thursday, Victor Escalon — the regional director for the Texas Department of Public Safety — told reporters he had "taken all those questions into consideration", but was not ready to answer them. They had raced to the school from nearly 113 kilometres away in the border town of Del Rio, according to an agency tweet. The crisis came to an end when a group of Border Patrol tactical officers entered the school at 12:45pm, said a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson.Mr Escalon said officers had called for backup, negotiators and tactical teams, while evacuating students and teachers.

He said they moved rapidly to enter the building, lining up in a "stack" behind an agent holding up a shield.

You think...

They're Texans🙄

Would they have reacted like they did if it was one of their own kids in the school. I think not, rather they would have sent in tanks, fighter pilots, bombers, and possibly even nuclear bombs.

Here in Australia we don’t worry too much about guns. But what I want to know is that if there is an active shooter in our school and barricaded in a classroom and clearly shooting children in the classroom, would more than a dozen Aussie cops sit outside and wait for backup?

How long before the police chief resigns ?

All these men joined the force for a life of adventure and excitement, then when a situation like this arises to have their adventure they find they weren't up to the task.

20/20 when you’re in the rear view mirror. Learn lesson and get ready for the next one… until there is tighter control there will be another.

Hope the parents sue the hell of that police department.

US gun laws are the wrong decision.

Officer safety first!

Not downplaying this issue at all, but are we deflecting from the REAL issue.. the fact that an 18 year old can buy a high powered weapon?

American's use violence by their security forces only when they can bully a weaker opponent. These cops are there to intimidate not protect.

Its disgusting that those dead had to endure over an hour in terror waiting for rescue that neve came.

A bunch of corwards

So they’re blaming the police now 🤦🏼‍♂️

That a bad guy can get a gun and carefully plan to kill innocents is certain in 🇺🇸. That a good guy with a gun will be there, willing and able to stop them is almost no chance. All societies apart from 🇺🇸 understand this.

Just throw more guns at the problem.

Heads must roll. There police not mall cops, who could've done the same thing standing outside. Dozens of heavily armed cops there yet they failed to take action against a sole active shooter.

But more guns will outweigh the bad guns 😂

Move on. All your hand wringing and thoughts wont change anything. In a months time when the next American shooting happens you wont remember this schools name. Not even the LAS VEGAS shooting made any difference Me? I'm an Australian non gun owner and support gun control

Activate Lawsuit in 3,2,1…

The good guy with a gun was scared of the bad guy with a gun.

Remember when that doctors wife and daughters were brutally raped and murdered and set alive whilst alive. Cops waited out front before fire and yet still didn't go in. The father escaped from he's ties and crawled outside. They pounced on him. Yet he's family burnt alive.😔😔

Automatic Guns are wrong in the public hands.

The excuses are a bit thin - how could they not have realised the extreme danger to those kids, of an armed man, inside the school, who was shooting them?
