COO of Eskom Jan Oberholzer says that the root cause of the current crisis at the utility generation is a shortage of both capacity and funding. Speaking at the power utility’s System Status and Outlook Briefing on Wednesday, he noted that the cause of the current state of Eskom stemmed from 2012. He said that this was a result of years of lower planned maintenance on the ageing fleet combined with the high utilisation of the power plants.
