Gov. JB Pritzker on Friday signed into law new legislation aimed at cracking down on the rise in organized retail thefts and smash-and-grab burglaries.
into law on Friday, Pritzker addressed concerns opponents of the law have expressed before, that it would lead to harsh penalties for non-violent shoplifting."Let me be clear: this is not aimed at a low-income parent desperate to feed their child. It's not about a kid making a shortsighted mistake. This is about a multi-billion-dollar industry of organized criminals carrying out sophisticated theft operations to turn a profit on the resale market," he said.
Under the new law, prosecutors will be able to go after the ringleaders of such crimes. The law also will create a statewide intelligence-gathering platform, to help law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels to work together in catching retail criminals.
This should work just as good as those gun laws in Illinois! 😂😂
