NIMBY prats. Clueless. Much rather have to deal with the waste from coal fired power plants, because they can't look beyond their own narrative. Just in case they might be proven wrong.
NSW made the waste. NSW profited from having it in their State. NSW need find a dump within their State. Canberra would be the ideal site.

Years ago, a waste dump was going to be put near Woomera, on Commonwealth land. I know the area well, having worked there, and know it would have been a much better option than Kimba given it was literally in the middle of nowhere. Why this option wasn't revisited is beyond me.
I did a job at a uranium mine in South Australia. Really hazardous shit. We wore normal industrial clothing. No respirator no dust mask. Our end product was yellowcake. Our waste was industrial like packing crates rags and no risk. We disposed on site. This waste is similar risk
