A Brazilian man accused of murdering schoolboy Josh Dunne saved a fellow food-delivery cyclist from more serious injuries or death when he used a knife to defend him from a gang of youths, a witness has told the Central Criminal Court

Guilherme Quieroz told the trial today of George Gonzaga Bento that before Josh Dunne was stabbed, he and the accused were attacked by a group of young men on a Dublin street when they tried to retrieve a stolen bicycle.

He said he suffered broken teeth, a broken nose, cuts and bruising on his face and damage to his right knee. Before viewing footage of the incident he said he thought it lasted much longer than the one minute captured by CCTV. He added:"If in only one minute I was that hurt, what would have happened if I was five minutes in that situation?"

The prosecution alleges that Mr Bento, a delivery cyclist, produced a knife during a"stand-off or confrontation" with a man on a moped who had stolen another delivery cyclist's bike. Josh Dunne and other youths arrived at the scene and got involved in the confrontation. He said that once several of the youths had crossed the road the man on the moped said something like"who is the hard man now? and attacked him, Mr Quieroz.

Unfortunately the victim in this case is the Brazilian guy. He will be hung out to dry for it too.

see how the Gardai played no role in any of this story at any stage? the Deliveroo riders were being attacked and mugged by these teens for a long time and gardai did nothing about it. Useless force. Only showing up when an ambulance does.

Childish irish society they call knacker heroes when they die. There are no youth gangs beating people, stealing bikes/phones, harassing in Dublin. This is all fable, they only have nice and kind so called child. At 16 you are pre adult you know from wrong and right.

If this man goes to jail, it’s a disgrace.

I suspect many lessons were learned that day by everyone.

Youths turn ferral in groups on the streets just like your little house doggy if it gets in a pack

HMcEntee the streets are absolutely rampant with violence but your continued bs virtue signaling and sound byte politics is not helping..either do something or resign

In more Irish way to understand this, if you get attached by a gang in Ireland you have to get yourself killed because if you try to defend yourself YOU are the one who can get in trouble. In Ireland criminals have more rights and protections than the victims

I’m from the area and can’t believe that boy was charged .

So sorry for the Brazilian guy who was simply helping another under attack from young thugs. More needs to be done to protect those delivery cyclists from these street gangs!

Another one of HelensFelons

Little toe rags attack someone doing an honest days work and the defender accidentally kills one of them…have I missed something?

You have to call into question the level of influence that the police force have on the streets of Dublin & elsewhere. It would appear from the level of violence being reported that this level is diminishing every week. The government are sitting on their hands and doing nothing.

It was quite obviously self defence. Why were those youths hanging around town?

Why’s someone’s nationality or if someone that isn’t Catholic said why not say the persons name ……

The joys of mass immigration
