Was she rejected because she is a former sex worker, or because she is a Trudeau critic? Either option makes the Liberals look terrible

Today’s Liberals demand extreme loyalty and treat even gentle critiques of Trudeau as heresy, so it would be unsurprising if this set off serious alarm bells. It genuinely doesn’t occur to Liberals that it’s healthy for a democratic party to hold itself accountable, or that someone willing to stand by their principles rather than pandering to leadership could be a valuable addition. They claim to love diversity, but abhor diversity of thought within their own ranks.

This doesn’t bode well for the future of the Liberal party, federally or provincially. If criticism of Trudeau or other senior Liberals marks one as persona non grata going forward, the Liberals will increasingly nominate partisan zealots over the truly qualified. It’s one thing to enforce the party line for sitting MPs, MPPs and nominees , but it’s entirely another to demand candidates tweet and speak in lockstep long before they enter politics.Article content

However, this does explain the appeal of a high school student whose political experience amounts to campaigning for the Ontario Liberals, as part of “Students for Michael Coteau” and serving as a Liberal youth panelist on Sirius XM’s Canada Talks channel. Who knows, he may be a great politician one day, but it’s his early indoctrination that likely set him ahead of an experienced lawyer with more complex political views.

If this is their new standard for nominees, the Liberals will continue their descent into an echo chamber that performs well at press conferences, but falls short at governing. This is both bad for them, and dangerous for the country as rigorous debate is replaced with a culture of political fandom.

In the Trudeau Regime, the PMO calls the shots. Party members are not allowed to have independent thoughts or, if they do, they aren’t allowed to express them, at the risk of being kicked out of the Party. An impressionable, eager to please, teenager is their ideal candidate.
