Operating hours will be lengthened at eight schools across the state in a NSW government trial to modernise the school day to better suit parents and students | daniellamariewh

Operating hours will be lengthened at eight schools across the state in a NSW government trial to modernise the school day to better suit parents and students.

Parent David Chalmers says more flexibility would help his family juggle work commitments and the daily pick-up and drop-offs.“We know it can be a challenge for families juggling the competing demands of work and family life around standard school hours and this pilot is about exploring options to help with that,” he said.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said that the traditional school day is already being reimagined by many schools to better meet the needs of students with breakfast clubs, study centres, fitness and arts programs. David Chalmers, a parent with two children attending participating school Matraville Soldier’s Settlement Public, welcomed the trial and said he was interested to find out more about the activities.

“The kids say they’d be really excited to try out some of the new activities that would be on offer.”

daniellamariewh And get rid of Curriculum days. Let teachers do as much 'self improvement' and planning as they want during school holidays.

daniellamariewh About time the Australian education system was modernised. 3pm pickups don’t work in 2022.

daniellamariewh Just wondering how this is different to before and after school care?

daniellamariewh How are the TeachersFed feeling about this? Or are they ok since they say they already work long hours - they now have to work shift hours? Imagine a nurse working shifts with pts 48 weeks a year. Teachers with kids less than 40. Poor souls.

daniellamariewh Is that to stop ramping at hospitals? Get the kids operating as extracurricular activities 😁

daniellamariewh Because kids are so attentive after 6 hours of school!

daniellamariewh Modernisation isn’t outsourcing parenthood. Just because Perrotett has nothing to to with the soccer team he’s sired, doesn’t mean all families operate that way.
