The leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion that could end or limit abortion access for millions has sent shockwaves through diverse faith communities

In this photo provided by Felicity Figueroa, Rabbi Stephen Einstein, left, founding rabbi of Congregation B’nai Tzedek in Fountain Valley, Calif., stands with the Rev. Sarah Halverson-Cano, senior pastor of Irvine United Congregational Church in Irvine, Calif., at a rally supporting abortion access, in Santa Ana, Calif., May 3, 2022.

“This is the result of ongoing, necessary prayer since 1973,” Hunt said. “As a Christian, I believe that God is the one that gives life — not politicians or justices. I certainly want to see more babies protected in the womb.” In Islam, similarly, there is room for “all aspects of reproductive choice from family planning to abortion,” said Nadiah Mohajir, co-founder of Heart Women and Girls, a Chicago nonprofit that works with Muslim communities on reproductive rights and other gender issues.

“If we truly value life as a culture,” Nicolino said, “we would take steps like guaranteeing maternal health care, health care for children, decent housing for pregnant women.” Compassion is a virtue emphasized as well by some Christian leaders who are calling on their ardently anti-abortion colleagues to lower the temperature as they speak out on the issue.

Likewise, Caitlyn Stenerson, an Evangelical Covenant Church pastor and campus minister in Minnesota's Twin Cities area, called on faith leaders to “tread carefully,” bearing in mind that women in their pews may have had abortions for a variety of reasons and may be grieving and wrestling with trauma.

Mitch McConnell Says Federal Lawmakers Could Ban Abortion Across The NationIf the leaked Supreme Court opinion becomes final, federal lawmakers could prohibit abortion everywhere, said McConnell. Sick 😡 This guy is about two seconds away from his blood leaking from his body. He’s gonna roll over in hell to make room for trump. Prohibition doesn't work. It didn't stop alcohol consumption. It just drove it underground & led to organized crime. As Barbara Bush once commented. 'I hate abortion but I would never tell someone what to do.' I believe many share that view.

Justice Alito the face of looming Supreme Court anti-abortion decisionSupreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has become the justice most identified with a leaked draft decision that would make access to abortion a state decision rather than a national right. Isn't he the guy who told the J6 insurrectionists he would invalidate the election if the congressional vote was blocked? He didn't get a chance since the congress continued to meet after the Trump organized rioting mob was dispersed. Is this supposed to be breaking news ? Well considering that he wrote it, how is this a story?
