Norman Eisen, House co-counsel in Trump's first impeachment trial, told Newsweek Justice Samuel Alito's draft opinion is a 'masterpiece of Trumpery.'

"For example, throwing outs— the foundation respecting precedent is a foundation of Supreme Court jurisprudence." He said Alito's"personal feelings" about abortion should not sway his decision.

"The cancer of Trump's influence has fully spread to the body politic to reach the judicial branch," he added.Overcoming Trumpery: How to Restore Ethics, the Rule of Law, and DemocracySince the impeachment process he was involved in, Eisen said"the stakes have steadily escalated," in Trump's legal wrangles.

"And so now we're forced to have the January 6 committee hearing," Eisen said, with the investigation of the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol set to take place next month.
