Is there a new American motto: In nothing we trust?

By lots of measures, most in the U.S. lack much confidence in large institutions and have for years. Congress? Two big thumbs down. The presidency? Ehh. Americans are also distrustful of big business, unions, public schools and organized religion. Indeed, they hold abysmal views of the functioning of democracy itself.

Elected officials do not normally talk this way about the justices. But now, it seems, the jurists are fair game, just another contingent of power players in the Washington viper pit. Then Republicans did the same for Supreme Court nominees in the judicial equivalent of nuclear escalation. Yet people in the United States, in recent times, have grown suspicious about judicial independence, with a strong majority believing justices should keep their political views out of their decisions but not even 1 in 5 polled believing they do an excellent or good job of that.

Now, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a liberal on the conservative-majority court, warns that a reversal in 50 years of abortion rights would shatter the idea that American justice is blind to partisanship or party. In Charleston, outside West Virginia’s only abortion clinic, Dennis Westover, a 72-year-old retired electrical engineer, sat in a lawn chair with an anti-abortion sign. He, too, sees weird doings from the court.

Going to make a sizable contribution to the Pro-Life Movement in the name of the Denver Post

In the opinion of a liberal writer for a liberal rag.

So, after decades of a left leaning court, when the right accepted, with respect, their rulings, now that’s it right leaning the left has gone insane. Good to know. If nothing else, it shows who should really be in charge here.

You can thank the person who wants to be king for selfishness and divisiveness!!

The Koch family and their gop minions have been working hard on this. Makes me think they aren’t loyal Americans.

The leak didn't shake anyone's trust, the fucking justices did

Supreme Court leak shakes trust in one more American pillarBy many measures, most in the U.S. lack much confidence in large institutions. The Supreme Court has been something of an exception, enjoying higher esteem. But that standing has diminished as some see the court as becoming more political. Of course, you won't find the words 'judicial review' in the Constitution, either. the Taliban is coming.... The leak isn’t what’s shaking the trust of another American institution. The decision to take away privacy, medical, and reproductive rights of women in the United States by right wing religious cult members is what has shaken our confidence.

Derek Monson and William C. Duncan: Supreme Court leak harms American democracyOPINION: The unprecedented leak of a draft court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has accomplished what decades of culture war politics have failed to do: Advance the debate around state and federal abortion policy. if Roe is overturned, Americans will wake up the next morning and discover that the justices have not banned abortion nationwide but have simply upheld the right of states to impose restrictions. Some states like NY & Colorado will impose no restrictions at all. I just no longer see a SCOTUS with any credibility. The federal government has too much power. This should be a first step in eliminating that power. Also states have too much power. The federal government should step in and remove unconstitutional state laws (like laws governing the 2nd Amendment).

Major companies stay mum on thorny abortion issue - for nowA leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion that would abolish a nationwide right to abortion has thrust major companies into what’s arguably the most divisive issue in American politics. When your input into a draft is based on a man who believed in witchcraft. You shouldn't be allowed to be a Supreme court justice anymore. Clearly some screws are loose asf. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, it doesn’t mean they are saying abortion is not legal. If overturned it will probably be due to the wrong type of law being applied in Roe v. Wade or something similar not the issue itself.

Trump largely silent on abortion at first rally since Supreme Court leakFormer President Donald Trump made only passing, indirect references to abortion Friday night at his first rally since a leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade sent Democrats and Republicans scrambling. Sounds like getting an abortion is in one of Donald's nondisclosure agreements he had some woman sign in the past. He was silent because he’s paid for plenty.
