The EU has agreed on the Digital Services Act, seeking to curb targeted ads and big tech dominance. jackschickler reports.

The European Union has agreed new laws to curb targeted online ads, remove illegal content and impose supervision and sanctions on the largest internet platforms.

First proposed by the commission in December 2020, the DSA aims to restrict the ability of social networks, app stores and content-sharing platforms to target ads. It also requires sites to take down illegal content.

The proposals also limits targeting ads at children and those based on sensitive data such as race or sexuality.

jackschickler The idea of the DAS may have been a nice one but the outcome is potentially fatal. Let's go for censorhip resistant decentralized platforms. We'll be going to need these sooner than later in Europe. The EU allows itself to decide which content to block in times of crisis!
