A Muslim rights advocacy group, the Muslim Rights Concern, has opposed the endorsement of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to seek reelection for a second term of four years in 2023.

The group maintained that the governor’s endorsement by All Progressives Congress leadership in the state was against principle of rotational governance.

According to Akintola, the group hinged its objection on the fact that Christians have had their two terms and it is the turn of Muslims to produce a governor by 2023. “It is on record that ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, a Christian, spent four years in office and another Christian, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was brought in ostensibly to complete the Christians’ two terms which expires by May 2023 when a Muslim, ceteris paribus, is expected to take over the reins of office.

“For the avoidance of doubts, MURIC has no intention of hijacking control of the Muslim community in the state. We always recognize established leadership structures wherever they exist and Lagos Muslims have that structure.

Where were they when Tinubu and Fashola both muslem both run Lagos for 16year where the not in this same lagos

If there is one thing I love most about Yorubas , it is their approach to religion . They don't care about what you worship even if na stone .

This lack serious merit, don't drag Lagos down with religion.

As Muslims, we should heed the instructions of Allah as written in the Quran, 'in all matters follow the middle course, abstain from extremities as practised by those before you'. Since jidesanwoolu is serving well, it's reasonable he continues the good work.

Inside Lagos I never knew religion had became a basis for been elected, I have always been under the illusion that Lagos is an egalitarian state... Shame on MURIC and any other overzealous religious body.

And if you check well you will see that the Christmas are more populated in the State. The so-called MURIC has never been objective. Just seeking for attention.

I am really disappointed with this. Tinubu and Fashola that served 8 years each between 1999 and 2015, were they not Muslims? Was there any strife from Christians? This MURIC should be checked, as they are not factual and considerate with all these assertions of theirs. Pathetic!

1999 - 2003 (Bola Ahmed Tinubu - Muslim); 2003 - 2007 (Bola Ahmed Tinubu - Muslim); 2007 - 2011 (Babatunde Raji Fashola - Muslim); 2011 - 2015 (Babatunde Raji Fashola - Muslim); 2015 - 2019 (Akinwunmi Ambode - Christian); 2019 - Date (Babajide Sanwo-Olu - Christian)
