A 24-year-old man was charged in court with attempted extortion after he allegedly threatened to disseminate a compromising video clip of someone on social media.
The man had demanded $50,000 from the victim, said the police, who received a report about the case on April 19, at around 5.25pm. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him.The suspect was charged in court on Saturday with the offence of attempted extortion, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of five years with caning.
