There was a 59% rise in the murders of police officers in 2021, with 73 officers killed — underscoring an issue that doesn't get enough attention FBI Director Christopher Wray told '60 Minutes' tonight

" while speaking on the wider issue of crime fighting and also a 29% rise in murder in the U.S. in 2020, with almost 5,000 more people killed than the year before.CBS News' Scott Pelley asked Wray what was behind the rise in homicides. "Certainly the pandemic didn't help. There's a variety of ways in which that contributed to it," Wray said.

"We're seeing more and more juveniles committing violent crime, and that's certainly an issue. We're seeing a certain amount of gun trafficking, interstate gun trafficking. That's part of it. And we're seeing an alarming frequency of some of the worst of the worst getting back out on the streets."law enforcement officers were "being killed at a rate of almost one every five days," Wray said.

"Violence against law enforcement in this country is one of the biggest phenomena that I think doesn't get enough attention," he said. "Some of it is tied to the violent crime problem as a whole. But one of the phenomena that we saw in the last year is that an alarming percentage of the 73 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty last year were killed through things like being ambushed or shot while out on patrol. ... Wearing the badge shouldn't make you a target.

The FBI did not immediately respond to Axios' request for more information on the percentage of officers killed in ambushes or shot while out on patrol.

Gun violence in America is a national tragedy. Children, who did not sign up for the job, are being slaughtered. Please, also protect all election officials and public servants. Ending the biglie and other conspiracy theories would go a long way in protecting lives.

Wondering how many humans died during police chases?

What do u expect when the media incessantly demonizes the police and elevates the scum of society to martyr status?

They need to start holding insurrectionist accountable.

Thank the NRA and Republicans for this insanity. They want every criminal and domestic terrorist armed

Now do citizens murdered by cops.

Receipts, and we’re they murdered by other officers?

Reflection of the society which creates, staffs, and supports it.

FBI should concentrate on who's killing the cops and who the cops are killing. No federal database exists that logs how many citizens cops kill. Let's see a racial breakdown of cop killers & cop victims.

The majority of officers killed in 2021 were of COVID-19, but that said, the number of officers murdered will continue to be a function of the number of firearms in possession of the populace!

Oh, but strong rumors of a coup......no biggie, Wray.

I feel like that’s pretty low nationwide all things considered. Am i wrong?

For context there were 89 officers killed in 2019 (before pandemic) and of these 48 were killed by felonious acts and 41 by accidents

The FBI & it’s Deep State, Anti-White is part of the problem. Wray’s fixation on supposed Right Extremist & “White Nationalist” ignores Openly Marxist BLM Insurrections throughout the Nation. Wray is an utter disgrace!

That's less than 1/10 the amount of police deaths from covid. When police forces make their officers get vaccinated, I'll believe they care about their health and safety.

Rural areas, the domestic abuse is the no. cop killer.

NRA spokesman: When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns...wait, I'll come in again. The only thing that stops a good guy with a gun is a bad guy with a...wait that's wrong. I'll come in again, again. The only good gun manufacturer is a dead gun...O boy this is hard

60 minutes should feel embarassed for this copaganda. 0.011%

'We obviously need way more guns. More general shootouts will reduce police deaths.' -The NRA, probably

the only answer is more domestic surveillance. we must spy one everyone so they can’t do bad things

Admitting that correlation is not causation, that increase in cops killed was accompanied by a reduction in the number of us killed by cops.

How many were killed because the crooks thought they would be killed? We hear of an un-armed person being killed by the police often. Maybe the bad guys figure they have nothing to lose. This will not end well.

What was the corresponding increase in gun sales?

Trump & the misinformation abt defund police, racist killings by police, and what else?

Yup, because you know, this is what happens when cops murder unarmed civilians and never go to prison. FTP
