Frank R. James was named a person of interest in the shooting incident in Brooklyn. NEW YORK — Law enforcement officials have identified a 62-year-old man as a person of interest in the Brooklyn subway shooting that injured more than 20 people Tuesday morning.
The alleged suspect was sitting in the second car of a Manhattan-bound N train between 59th and 36th street stations, police said. As the train approached the 36th Street station, the suspect allegedly tossed two gas grenades before firing his weapon 33 times, police said. Ten of the injured commuters were wounded by gunfire, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said at the press briefing. An additional 13 commuters were treated for smoke inhalation, injuries from falling while trying to exit the train car, and panic attacks.
