The parents of missing fraudster Melissa Caddick have acknowledged for the first time that their daughter also fleeced them, as it emerged that a date has been set for the long-awaited inquest into Caddick’s disappearance and suspected death.
The court-appointed receivers are trying to sell this property, as well her Dover Heights home, contending that both were acquired by Caddick using funds stolen from the $23 million her friends and family invested during the operation of her massive Ponzi scheme, which she began in 2012.
Her failure to do this “amounts to a breach of the binding agreement between them; and was done by Melissa dishonestly and fraudulently,” the Grimleys’ statement says.revealed this week that the Grimleys’ money was squandered by their daughter on a $590,000 diamond ring, private jets in Aspen and other lifestyle expenses.
Caddick, 49, disappeared in November 2020, hours after her house was raided by the corporate regulator, ASIC. Her partial remains washed up in her running shoe at a remote beach 400 kilometres south of Sydney in February 2021. The inquest into her presumed death will commence at the Coroner’s Court on 12 September.
