The U.S. Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson as a Supreme Court justice on Thursday, making her the first Black woman to hold the position.

Jackson will join Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett, making it the first Supreme Court in history to have four female justices. The court will remain dominated by a 6-3 conservative majority.

Canadians also took to social media to post about the moment in American history. Ann Lopez, a professor of education at the University of Toronto, said she was proud of Jackson.Ontario Green Party leader Mike Schreiner congratulated Jackson.

Sad part is that Biden announced in advance that he would only appoint a black woman. That was stupid. It creates the assumption that she’s an affirmative action appointment. He essentially said he was not looking for the best candidate, but the best black female candidate.

Yes, but she was subjected to terrible grilling by the Republicans, many of whom did not vote for her. It was awful to watch and read about. The US is a mess.
